ABOUT KAYPV

The anti-inflammatory tripeptide KPV

KPV (lysine-proline-valine) is the C-terminal fragment of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), corresponding to residues 11–13 of the parent hormone. This small tripeptide retains the anti-inflammatory activity of α-MSH while lacking its pigmentary effects, which has made it a widely used tool in inflammation research.

KPV has been studied in models of intestinal, dermal and airway inflammation, where it enters cells via the PepT1 peptide transporter and attenuates pro-inflammatory signalling. Kaypv™ supplies it as a defined, batch-documented reference material with identity and purity verified on every lot.

RESEARCH BACKGROUND

A tripeptide at the centre of inflammation research

A landmark study published in Gastroenterology showed that KPV is taken up by intestinal epithelial and immune cells through the PepT1 transporter, where it inhibits NF-κB and MAP kinase inflammatory signalling. In murine colitis models, orally administered KPV reduced the severity of intestinal inflammation at nanomolar concentrations.

Beyond the gut, KPV and related α-MSH fragments have been examined in dermal wound and airway inflammation models, and the tripeptide is frequently used as a reference compound for melanocortin-derived anti-inflammatory activity. It remains one of the most studied short fragments in the melanocortin literature.
